The Spiritual Side of Health
This class is for people interested in culminating their physical health along with the spiritual, emotional, and mental side.  Unfortunately, the whole realm of one’s wellness is rarely discussed in the matters of improving one’s health and fitness levels.  I hope to focus specifically on weight loss, nutritional support, and appropriate perspectives on one’s self-image

Linking our physical health to the spiritual side of health--this is a link God designed to work together.
1 Timothy 4:8: "For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise
for both the present life and the life to come."

Week 1:
What is your Self-Image? (click title for full article)
  • Our identity in Christ is a heart issue.
  • Proverbs 14:30 "A sound heart gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.”
  • Our sole purpose is to: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.”
  • WE NEED TO RETHINK OUR PERSPECTIVE OF IDENTITY!

Week 2:
Creating a "Real Image" (click for notes/ click here for audio)
Ephesians 1:1-14
Everything in life stems from identity, who or what we identify ourselves in will drive EVERYTHING in our life.  Everything in life is an identity issue.
  • Control your thoughts.
  • Let go of pleasing others.
  • Hold realistic expectations.
  • Examine yourself.
  • Protect your "real image"
  • Pursue your passions.
  • Beware of comparing.
  • Accept yourself as you are.
Week 3 & 4:
Authentic Relationships
We were created with a longing to be wanted, to want and need companionship.

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love.

Hebrews 10:24-And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.  Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

-->Self-reliance is a real barrier to any spiritual growth and progress.  We cannot grow alone.  We need the support, accountability, energy, feedback, comfort, and growth from fellowship with others we trust.  We need people around us who we can be 'real' with, and have authentic relationships.  A desire to achieve your personal goals all alone is an issue of self-pride.

-->"I", "Me", "My" is how we spiritually die.

Week 5: Exercise
Becoming what God Created you to Be!

Our bodies need for activity and exercise to be healthy and functional is a testament to God's desire for us to be alive and active in order to better fulfill His purpose and mission in us.

I Corinthians 6:19-20--Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you

and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought

you with a high price.

So you must honor God with your body.

a.        Recognize that you need His help.

b.      Turn to God for strength, for motivation, accountability, guidance, consistency.

c.       Be obedient .

d.      Keep motives/perspective God-honoring.

e.      Pray for support team.

 Week 6: Nutrition

Viewing food as a fuel source God has provided for us from the earth.

Scriptural Elements of Eating

2 “Respectable Sins” We Commit with Eating:

1)      Idolizing food.

2)      Control issues.

John 6:35—Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.”  What are you feasting on?
